Friday January 11

Only 4 games were up for grabs on Friday night. Four games! Former Islanders are lending a hand where they can. Let us take a look at the FI support:

* Mark Parrish's point streak keeps stacking up. He continued his surge on Friday with another goal as the Minnesota Wild crushed the host Chicago Blackhawks 5-2. Parrish notched an insurance goal and now has 22 points (13 goals, 9 assists) on 41 games. During his current 8 game point streak Parrish has recorded 6 goals and 3 assists for 9 points. He is a +4 over that span with 1 powerplay goal and 17 shots on goal. Chicago defenseman Brent Sopel, fresh off signing a 3 year contract extension, scored his first goal of the season to open the scoring. Sopel received 3rd star of the game honors and has 11 points (1 goal, 10 assists) on 34 games. With the netter, Sopel snapped a 57 game goal-less streak that included 11 playoff games from last season. It was his first goal since March 11, 2007. To put it into another perspective, Sopel had not scored a goal in his prior 73 shots!

* Taylor Pyatt had a good night while the rest of the Vancouver Canucks did not dropping a 4-3 decision to the visiting Phoenix Coyotes. T-Py's goals served as bookends to the offense with a powerplay goal just over 8 minutes into the game and and even strength score with 8 and a half left in regulation. Pyatt received 2nd star of the game honors and now has 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points on 44 games. It was Pyatt's first multi-goal night since October 26 of this season. Canucks' goalie Roberto Luongo got a much deserved night off.

Check back soon for updates from a busy weekend around the NHL here at FIW.
