All-Stars: Former Islander Edition

We are going to take a quick peek at the Former Islander All-Stars who will be competing in this action-packed and frankly unnecessary frivolity this coming weekend:

* Zdeno Chara (D, BOS) - Boston captain Zdeno Chara is on pace for a career year. With 34 points (7 goals, 27 assists) on 49 games, Chara is only 9 points behind his 2 career best seasons. He is tied for 6th in points among defenseman. Currently his +/- rating of +7 is severely improved from last year's poor -21 outing. He is also 6th among d-men with 77 penalty minutes and shots on goal. All we are waiting for now is Chara to find the net in a pressure situation with no game winning goals yet this season.

* Chris Osgood (G, DET) - Replacing a decidedly indifferent Roberto Luongo, who opted not to play, Chris Osgood will be one of the netminders for the West squad. Osgood is having an unbelievable season with a 20-3-2 record, a .925 save percentage, 1.87 goals against average and 3 shutouts. Osgood current leads all goalies in goals against average while tied for 3rd in save percentage. While he has a fraction of the starts of most number 1 goaltenders, Osgood is currently tied for 8th in wins and is tied for 7th in shutouts. Osgood is playing like the lead netminder in Detroit yet is respectfully resigned to split time with the Red Wing's true number 1, Dominik Hasek.

Until next time.
