Defenseman Brent Sopel signed a 3 year contract extension with the Chicago Blackhawks. It is the believe the garner Sopel about $7 million over the next 3 years. Out currently with a broken finger, Sopel is expected to return soon. He has 10 assists on 33 games this season with a slim 12 penalty minutes, a +10 rating and 3 shorthanded assists.
A 467 game veteran, Sopel has 39 goals and 152 assists for 191 points and 235 penalty minutes. He has had 76 (18 goals, 58 assists) of those points on the powerplay. Over 25 percent of his career goals (10) have been game winners. Sopel, who played his first 7 seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, has also played for the Kings, Isles and Blackhawks.
