Thursday February 21

There were 9 games in motion on an unusually busy Thursday night around the NHL. Former Islanders are trying to push their respective teams into playoff positioning. Let us look at the FI contributions:

* Zdeno Chara scored the 3rd Boston goal as the Bruins pulled off a 2 goal comeback to edge the host Florida Panthers 5-4 in the SO. Chara has 12 goals and 29 assists for 41 points on 60 games. He is currently in the midst of a 3 game goal- and point-scoring streak in which he has tallied 3 goals and 1 assist for 4 points. It is the 1st time Chara has scored goals in 3 consecutive games since December 20-23, 2005 while in his last season with the Ottawa Senators. Panthers captain Olli Jokinen missed on his attempt in the 3rd round of the SO, a shot that if successful would have extended the sudden death session.

* Defenseman Roman Hamrlik scored a powerplay goal in the Montreal Canadiens' 5-4 loss to the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins. Hamrlik has 4 goals and 16 assists for 20 points on 57 games. He has notched 8 points (2 goals, 6 assists) on the man advantage. With the tally Hamrlik snapped a 7 game point-less streak and a 15 game goal-less streak.

* Roberto Luongo recorded the win as the Vancouver Canucks edged the host Nashville Predators 3-2 in SO. Luongo faced a 51 shot barrage stopping 49 of them. In addition he stopped all stopped all 3 shots thrown at him in the SO. With the win Luongo improved to 27-18-7. The 49 saves was a season high surpassing the 47 he stopped on January 17 of this year.
