There were only 4 games on tap on Friday night as 8 teams battled for points. Former Islanders were active lending their support where they could. Let us take a peek at the FI happenings:
* Defenseman Denis Grebeshkov had an assist on Edmonton's 2nd goal as the Oilers fell to the host Dallas Stars 5-2. Grebeshkov has 2 goals and 9 assists for 11 points on 51 points. Over the last 2 games he has 3 points on 1 goal and 2 assists.
* Chris Osgood made a valiant effort but the lack of Detroit offense led to a 1-0 loss for the Red Wings to the host Calgary Flames. Osgood stopped 25 of 26 shots and was the 2nd star of the game. With the loss Ozzie fell to 23-8-2 on the season with a .917 save percentage and a 2.08 goals against average.
* Recently returned Colorado forward Ryan Smyth was stopped on his attempt in the top half of the 2nd round of the 12 round SO as the Avalanche edged the host Phoenix Coyotes 3-2. Smyth has yet to score a point in 5 games since returning from a New Year's Eve injury until his Valentine's Day return. Coyotes' forward Mike York scored in the 8th round of the SO to extend the sudden death frame.
* D-man Mathieu Schneider assisted on the tying goal as the Anaheim Blues slipped past the visiting St. Louis Blues 2-1. Schneider has 30 points (8 goals, 22 assists) on 48 games.
