It was a busy day around the NHL as 26 teams fought it out in 13 hotly contested competitions. Former Islanders are actively assisted their teams as 28 of 30 clubs are still in active contention for playoff spots. Even the 2 lowliest NHL teams have long shot chances of making it if they continue their recent strong play. Nobody is really out of it yet and FIs are helping to ensure they can push their teams into the mix. Let us look at their efforts from a hectic Saturday:
* Jason Blake had a powerplay assist and the insurance goal as the Toronto Maple Leafs managed a rare 4-2 home win over the visiting Ottawa Senators. Blake has 34 points (11 goals, 23 assists) on 54 games this season. He has only 5 points (1 goal, 4 assists) on the man advantage. This is especially paltry considering he notched a career high 14 goals last season with the Isles. Sens' center Randy Robitaille assisted on both of his team's goals. Robitaille has 20 points (8 goals, 12 assists) on 42 games.
* Goalie Chris Osgood stopped 22 of 23 shots as the Detroit Red Wings beat the host Boston Bruins 3-1. Osgood improved to 22-3-2 with the win and has an impressive .927 save percentage and a paltry 1.84 goals against average.
* Three separate FIs got involved in the scoring as the Florida Panthers beat the struggling host Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2. Zednik snapped a 16 game point-less streak and a 20 game goal-less streak with his game winning tally with 1:05 remaining in regulation. Prone to on-and-off play this streak of offensive ineffectiveness was especially tough on Zed. He now has 10 goals and 8 assists for 18 points on 50 games. It was the 4th game winner of the season for Zednik. Olli Jokinen's powerplay goal less than 5 minutes earlier had knotted the score at 2. O-Jok has 25 goals and 26 assists for 51 points on 54 games. He has scored 23 of his season points (12 goals, 11 assists) on the man advantage. It is the 5th consecutive season the Jokinen has scored 25+ goals. Defenseman Brad Lukowich assisted on Tampa's first goal. Luko has 7 points (1 goal, 6 assists) on 51 games. He has notched 3 assists on the last 5 games.
* Eric Brewer assisted on St. Louis' 4th goal as the Blues fell to the visiting Colorado Avalanche 6-4. Brewer snapped a 6 game point-less streak and now has 11 points (1 goal, 10 assists) on 46 games.
