There were a lean 5 games on the NHL schedule on Friday. Teams are fighting for important standings points. Former Islanders are trying to help lift up their teams into playoff position. Let us take a look at the FI happenings:
* Arron Asham missed his attempt in the 10th round of the SO as the New Jersey Devils fell 4-3 to the visiting Atlanta Thrashers. His failed shot sealed an Atlanta come-from-behind win.
* Dick Tarnstrom continued his strong play with his new team notching 2 assists as the Columbus Blue Jackets thrashed the host Detroit Red Wings 5-1. Tarnstrom has had a point in all 3 games he has played with Columbus since being traded tallying 1 goal and 3 assists for 4 points. All 4 of those points have come with the man advantage. Michael Peca assisted on the 3rd Jackets' goal. Peca has 4 goals and 23 assists for 27 points on 45 games. He is riding a 4 game point streak in which he has record 5 assists. Things are tough for Wings' goalie Chris Osgood who got pulled again after giving up 4 goals on only 13 shots. He was pulled for the second straight, this time with only minutes remaining in the 2nd period. Osgood fell to 22-7-2 on the season and has dropped 4 straight decisions. It is the first time Ozzie has dropped 4 or more consecutive decisions since January 21-February 2, 2004 when he dropped 5 in a row while still with the St. Louis Blues.
* Derek Armstrong scored an insurance goal and added 2 assists as the Los Angeles Kings doubled up on the Calgary Flames for a 6-3 home win. Armstrong notched all 3 points even strength and received 2nd star of the game honor. He now has 8 goals and 21 assists for 29 points on 60 games. Calgary defenseman Adrian Aucoin had a powerplay assist on the final goal of the night. Aucoin has 8 goals and 20 assists on 53 games this season. Over half of his points (15, 3 goals, 12 assists) have come with the extra man.
