Sunday March 25

Sunday was a moderately slow day around the NHL with 5 games up for grabs. Former Islanders were responsible for 3 goals and 2 assists in just 2 of the games. Here is a look:

  • Roman Hamrlik assisted on the tying goal 48 seconds into the 3rd period and then put the game away with his 6th of the season and only 6:11 remaining for a 3-2 regulation win for the Calgary Flames over the hosting Chicago Blackhawks. In a return to form Hamrlik has 37 points in 68 games this season including a hot stretch of 7 points in his last 7 games. The game winning goal was Hamrlik's first in the pre-lockout era, a total of over 119 games.
  • Roberto Luongo did something rare on Sunday giving up 4 goals in regulation and then losing in SO as the visiting Colorado Avalanche beat the Vancouver Canucks 5-4. He stopped 26 of 30 shots and 1 of 2 in the SO but saw his record "drop" to 43-20-6. Taylor Pyatt made some waves scoring the first and fourth goals for Vancouver, numbers 19 and 20 on the year. Despite having evaporated from the Vancouver scoresheet Pyatt's having a career year with the aforementioned goals he has also added 12 assists for 32 points in 69 games. The tallies ended a 9 game goalless streak. Sadly, Pyatt has been so cold he has only had 4 points, all goals, in his last 17 overall. On the flip side has been Trevor Linden who assisted on the second Vancouver goal. Linden has been on a little tear recently getting points in his last 5 games including 3 goals in 3 games and 2 assists in the next 2 games. He has improved what appeared to be a subpar season by bumping his stats up. With 7 points in his last 9 overall Linden now has 12 goals and 12 assists for 24 points.

Monday night has one game on tap. Keep posted as often as you can for all the current FI news.
