Monday March 19

Mondays are almost unanimously a slow night for the NHL. This Monday was no exception. Two low-scoring 2-1 games were eked out with little flash and little prowess. One of the those games again saw Former Islanders. One of those teams again was Vancouver. Here is the recap:

  • The reeling Oilers lost 2-1 at home against the Canucks. Raffi Torres opened the scoring for Edmonton with his 14th of the season. With 19 assists Torres now has 33 points on a season that was expected to be his breakout year. The goal ended a 5 game pointless streak and a 10 game goalless streak. Trevor Linden tied the game on his 12th goal of the year, a powerplay tally. Linden is now riding a three game goal scoring streak his first since November 25-29, 2002! Roberto Luongo stopped 36 of 37 to notch his 42nd win of the year. He is now tied with Martin Brodeur for the league lead. With only 3 shutouts this season 1 seems to be the lucky number for Luongo. On a bad night that number climbs to about 2. Pretty impressive for a goalie who didn't even know what .500+ hockey was before the lockout.

8 games on tap tonight. Pick a bottle, pick a friend, pick a team and watch. Until next time.
