Friday March 16

6 games were played Friday with strong results from Former Islanders. With playoff fever everywhere the intensity level has really been turned up for FIs. In those games FIs have accounted for 1 goal and 5 assists. Here is a quick look:
  • Bryan McCabe posted assist number 38 making the 2006-07 his second best assist season after scoring 49 in 2005-06. The point came on Toronto's only goal in their 5-1 road loss to the Washington Capitals.
  • Pittsburgh handily defeated Montreal 6-3 at home on Friday night moving within 4 points of the Atlantic Division lead with a game in hand over New Jersey. But the real story for FIW was the continued offensive exertion of Alain Nasreddine. In the first 59 games of his career Nasreddine had accounted for a lone goal and a loan assist. In the last three games Nasreddine has three assists including the secondary on Pittsburgh's game winner Friday night. All of this while filling in for injured FI blueliner Eric Cairns.
  • Alexei Zhitnik tallied the game winning powerplay goal in OT for Atlanta in their 2-1 home win over the Rangers on Friday. His first goal since coming to the Thrashers, and 6th of the season, could not have come at a better time. Zhitnik's career is seemingly revived since joining his third team of the season. He now has 1 goal and 8 assists for 9 points in only 9 games with Atlanta.
  • We need to give credit when credit is due and Chicago's Jeff Hamilton has made a real name for himself this year. Anaheim defeated the Blackhawks 5-2 at the Honda Center on Friday but Hamilton tallied 2 assists and FI teammate Adrian Aucoin accounted for another assist. In only 60 games Hamilton has 35 points on 17 goals and 18 assists. In the last 5 games alone he has accounted for 9 points. Aucoin's assist, his 12th of the year, is part of a markedly improved season from last year's injury riddled debut with Chicago. In 51 games Aucoin has 16 points. Overall, though, Aucoin has struggled to regain his post-lockout form even though he wear's the C nightly for the Hawks.

That is it for Friday night. Check in shortly for Saturday's recap.
