Sunday March 18

With 6 games played on Sunday there was potential for so much Former Islanders action. Sadly, only one game had any FI implications, but boy was it big. Here is the recap:

  • Alexei Zhitnik scored a powerplay goal and 2 powerplay assists in Atlanta's 4-3 OT win at home against the Buffalo Sabres. Zhitnik assisted on the game's opener, scored the team's third goal and assisted on the winner by Keith Tkachuk with only 38 seconds left in overtime. He now has 12 points in 10 games as a Thrasher and has accomplished in 1/8 of a season what it took him to do in three times the games with either the Islanders or Flyers. Overall, he has 36 points in 71 games. 7 of his 12 points with the Thrashers have come on the powerplay (2 goals, 5 assists). Consider this: as a blueliner he has accounted for 3 more points than the much praised and more expensive Tkachuk has in the same amount of games.

With only 2 games being played tonight see if a hot Pittsburgh can hinder the Rangers playoff hopes or if streaking FI wunderkids Vancouver can take advantage of an icily cold Edmonton team. Until next time.
