There were 4 games up for grabs on Wednesday as the battle for the final playoff spots intensifies. Many will make a push for the postseason but when the dust settles quite a few will be left on the outside looking in. Former Islanders want to help their teams make it (if they still can). Let us look at the FI contributions:
* Michael Peca capped the scoring as the Columbus Blue Jackets blanked the visiting Chicago Blackhawks 4-0. Peca has 31 points (6 goals, 25 assists) on 60 games. With the goal he snapped a 6 game drought.
* Sean Hill scored the game winning powerplay goal 7:19 into the 1st period as the Minnesota Wild beat the visiting Edmonton Oilers 3-1. Hill has 7 points (2 goals, 5 assists) on 31 games. Hill has 4 points (2 goals, 2 assists) over the last 4 games and his 2nd goal in as many. It was Hill's 4th powerplay point (1 goal, 3 assist) of the season and his first game winning goal. Hill had not had a game winner since December 27, 2003 while with the Carolina Hurricanes, a span of 236 regular season games!
* Vancouver goaltender Roberto Luongo got knocked around for 5 goals in 33 minutes stopping only 18 of 23 shots faced as the Colorad Avalanche thrashed the visiting Canucks 6-3. Luongo fell to 34-25-9 on the season as he dropped his 3rd straight start. Luongo is currently mired in his worst losing stretch of the year. Taylor Pyatt scored the 2nd Canucks' goal. Pyatt has 16 goals and 20 assists for 36 points on 76 games.
* Ducks' d-man Mathieu Schneider netted the game winning goal in the 6th round of the SO as Anaheim edged the visiting Los Angeles Kings 2-1. Teammate Todd Bertuzzi missed on his attempt in the 1st round. Kings' center Derek Armstrong assisted on the opening goal, a powerplay 9:29 into the 1st period. Armstrong has 33 points (8 goals, 25 assists) on 72 games. For the 3rd consecutive season, and 4th time on his career, Armstrong has recorded 25+ assists.
