There were 20 teams in motion in 10 hotly contested tilts around the NHL on Saturday. Former Islanders are eager to get their teams into postseason contention. Let us look at the FI efforts:
* Bryan McCabe had 2 assists, including a powerplay helper, as the Toronto Maple Leafs edged the host Washington Capitals for a 3-2 win. McCabe has 4 goals and 13 assists for 17 points on 39 games. He has recorded 12 of thos points (3 goals, 9 assists) with the man advantage. It was the first multi-point night for McCabe since November 17, 2007, a span of 23 games without such an effort. Tom Poti assisted on the opening goal of the game. Poti has 1 goal and 20 assists for 21 points on 55 games. He currently holds a 3 game point streak in which he has recorded 4 assists. Viktor Kozlov scored the final goal of the game. Kozzer has 14 goals and 27 assists for 41 points on 65 games.
* Ryan Smyth scored 2 goals but was taken off on a stretcher following a hard hit by Los Angeles' defenseman Jack Johnson (not the singer!) as the Colorado Avalanche beat the Kings 5-2. Smyth, who received 1st star of the game honor, is currently listed as day-to-day with an undisclosed upper body injury. Smyth now has 14 goals and 19 assists for 33 points on 45 games. Over the last 3 games he had 3 goals and 2 assists for 5 points.
