It was a busy Tuesday around the NHL as 20 teams faced off in 10 high stakes tilts. We are quickly approaching the postseason and teams are scrambling for points in the standings. Former Islanders are trying to help push their respective teams into the fold. Let us take a look at the FI happenings:
* Martin Straka assisted on the 2nd New York Rangers' goal but missed on his crucial attempt in the 6th round of the SO as the Islanders beat the host Blueshirts 4-3. Straka has 12 goals and 20 assists for 32 points on 50 games. He has 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists) over the last 2 games he has played. For the 11th time on his career he has notched 20+ assists on a season.
* Robert Nilsson had an assist on the lone Edmonton goal as the Oilers fell to the visiting Nashville Predators 5-1. Nilsson received 3rd star of the game honor and now has 8 goals and 22 assists for 30 points on 56 games. He is on a 5 game point streak in which he has recorded 1 goal and 4 assists.
* Roberto Luongo took the loss as the Vancouver Canucks were edged by the host Colorado Avalanche 2-1. Luongo stopped 29 of 31 shots but the beast that is the Canucks' offensive woes came out again failing to pick up their backstopping teammate. Luongo is 28-20-9 on the season with a .921 save percentage and a low 2.23 goals against average. Over his last 4 starts he is 0-2-2 having surrendered 11 goals over 245 minutes of ice time.
