Happy St. Patrick's Day from FIW! There were only 2 games on the schedule on a booze-fueled day of debuachery and hedonism Irish-style meaning more players were free to get raging drunk than normal. Kidding! Kidding! There were only 2 notable Former Islander contributions from Monday night so let us take a look:
* Roberto Luongo stopped 25 of 26 shots to secure the win as the Vancouver Canucks beat the visiting Phoenix Coyotes 3-1. Luongo has won his last 2 starts to improve to 33-22-9 on the season. His 2.25 goals against average is currently 7th in the league while his .922 save percentage is tied for 2nd. Luongo has also notched 6 shutouts this season, good enough for a 3rd place tie among NHL leaders. Winger Taylor Pyatt scored the powerplay game winner for the Canucks at the 12:28 mark of the 1st period. With the tally he snapped a painfully long 19 game goal-less drought and a 4 game point-less run. T-Py now has 14 goals and 20 assists for 34 points on 72 games this season. The game winner was Pyatt's 2nd of the season, his first since October 26, and the 13th of his career. Pyatt has notched 9 points (7 goals, 2 assists) with the man advantage this year.
Check back soon for more updates and recaps as the Stanley Cup playoffs loom in the near future.
