There were 6 games up for grabs on Wednesday as 12 teams battled for points in the standings. As the fog begins to lift it is becoming more apparent who the real playoff contenders are as we near the end of the season. Former Islanders are still trying to push their teams over the Stanley Cup contention threshold. Let us look at the FI work effort:
* Viktor Kozlov had the opening goal of the game as the suddenly potent Washington Capitals edged the visiting Calgary 3-2. Kozlov has 15 goals and 30 assists for 45 points on 70 games. Kozzer now has 15+ goals on a season for the 7th time in his career.
* Winger Jason Blake assisted on Toronto's 1st goal as the Maple Leafs sneaked by the host Philadelphia Flyers for a 3-2 win. Blake has 13 goals and 31 assists for 44 points on 72 games. He now has a new single season high in assists surpassing his 30 with the Isles during the 2002-03 season. Defenseman Bryan McCabe had a helper on Toronto's 2nd goal. McCabe now has 22 points (5 goals, 17 assists) on 44 games.
* Roberto Luongo was pounded for 4 goals in the first 24 minutes stopping only 15 of 19 shots as the Anaheim Ducks beat the visiting Vancouver Canucks 4-1. It was one of the worst showings of the season for Luongo who had won his prior 3 starts. With the loss he fell to 31-21-9 on the season.
