Friday October 19

A fairly slow Friday night, the NHL only had 4 games on the schedule but Former Islanders were involved in all of them. Let us look at the limited Former Islander work:

* Jeff Hamilton scored a SO goal to little avail in Carolina's 4-3 sudden death loss to the host Pittsburgh Penguins. The Hurricane forward continues to impress his new teammates.

* It took Michael Peca 4 games but he finally made an offensive impact for his new team, the Columbus Blue Jackets, in their 3-0 plugging of the host Buffalo Sabres. Peca scored the game winner and added a powerplay assist.

* Ryan Smyth scored his 3rd goal of the season, a powerplay tally, in Colorado's 5-3 loss to the host Chicago Blackhawks. New Avalanch Smyth is not doing too bad for himself accounting for 6 points (3 goals, 3 assists) in 7 games.

* 2007 Vezina Finalist Roberto Luongo is struggling to start the season. Luongo stopped 13 of only 16 shots as the visiting Los Angeles Kings downed the Vancouver Canucks. 7 games into the season, Luongo is only 3-4-0 with a save percentage below .900 while allowing over 3 goals per game. Kings forward Derek Armstrong continues to struggle as he notched only his 3rd assist in 9 games. He's still looking to net hist first goal of the season.
