Two Edmonton Oilers' Former Islanders signed extensions over the last couple of days. Both prospects for the Isles earlier in 2006-07 season, trades sent left wing Robert Nilsson and defenseman Denis Grebeshkov to the Canadian North.
Nilsson signed a 3 year on Saturday April 12. The deal is reported to be worth $4.5 million with $1.5 million slated for the 2008-09 season and $2 million per season between 2009-2011. The deal secures Nilsson's services following a career year where he notched 10 goals and 31 assists for 41 points on 71 games. The contract extension insures that no teams could extend an offer sheet to the RFA this offseason.
Grebeshkov is reported to have inked a 1 year, $1.5 million deal. Playing in his first full season, Grebeshkov performed well, especially late, notching 3 goals and 15 assists for 18 points on 71 games. A smart, clean defenseman, Grebeshkov recorded only 22 penalty minutes all season and was a +2.
We wish the best for these 2 FIs and know they have even better seasons ahead of them with 2007-08 being just a sample of what they can do at the NHL level.
