The 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs started on Wednesday night with 4 teams in action. We will briefly recap the games including any relevant Former Islander contributions.
* The New York Rangers beat the host New Jersey Devils 4-1 to take a 1-0 series lead.
* The host Pittsburgh Penguins blanked the Ottawa Senators 4-0 to take a 1-0 edge in their rematch from last season's playoffs.
* Colorado scored the game winner midway through the 1st OT period as the Avalanche eked by the host Minnesota Wild 3-2 to take a 1-0 series lead. Ryan Smyth scored a powerplay goal in the 2nd period that gave Colorado a 2-0 advantage. The goal was Smyth's first in the postseason since April 16, 2007 when he scored for the Isles in the 3rd game of their 1st round series against the Buffalo Sabres. The goal snapped a 10 game drought to end the regular season.
* The Calgary Flames edged the host San Jose Sharks for a 3-2 win to take a 1-0 lead in that series.
