One more series wrapped up on Friday night as 6 teams faced off in 3 high energy Quarterfinals games. Former Islanders were helping push teams in to the next round. Here is a quick recap of those competitions:
* Martin Straka had a pair of powerplay assists as the New York Rangers downed the host New Jersey Devils 5-3 to seal the series 4-1. Straka has an impressive 6 points (1 goal, 5 assists) on 5 games with all 6 coming in the last 3 tilts.
* Chris Osgood got the start and the win taking over for an uncharacteristically inconsistent Dominik Hasek. Osgood stopped 20 of 21 shots to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 2-1 OT home win over the visiting Nashville Predators. The Red Wings grabbed a 3-2 series lead with the sudden death victory. The postseason start was his first since April 15, 2004 (pre-lockout!) while still the starting goaltender for the St. Louis Blues.
* The defending Stanley Cup Champion Anaheim Ducks avoided elimination with a spirited 5-2 win over the visiting Dallas Stars. The win cut the Dallas series lead to 3-2.
