There were 7 games up for grabs Monday as Martin Luther King, Jr. Day brought kids out to daytime games around the United States. Former Islanders made it a point to help their teams kicking in their support in 4 of those outings. Let us take a look:
Boston defenseman Zdeno Chara notched a goal and added a powerplay assist but the St. Louis Blues stunned the Eastern Conference leaders pulling off a 5-4 SO victory over the hosts. The Blues scored 2 goals in the last 80 seconds including a tying tally with 1 second remaining in regulation to pull of the comeback. Chara has 10 goals and 18 assists for 28 points on 46 games. For the 5th straight season and 6th in the last 7 Chara has scored 10+ goals.
Dallas winger Mark Parrish assisted on the 1st of only 2 Stars' goals as they fell to the host Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2. The helper snapped a 19 game assist-less streak dating to November 28. Parrish now has 6 goals and 4 assists for 10 points on 30 games. Parrish now has 10+ points in each of his 10 seasons. The assist, which came on the powerplay, was his first extra man helper since February 19, 2008 while still with the Minnesota Wild.
Buffalo center Tim Connolly kept up his good play with another goal as the Sabres edged the host Florida Panthers 3-2 in the SO. With 3 goals over the last 2 games Connolly now has 5 goals and 5 assists for 10 points on 12 games. The goal was the 75th of TimCo's 450 games career. For the 2nd straight season and 7th time on his 8 season career Connolly has notched 10+ points. Receiving the primary assist on the tying Panthers' goal was winger Richard Zednik. Zed now has 6 goals and 10 assists for 16 points on 34 games. He has notched a point-per-game over the last 5 contests with 1 goal and 4 assists. The helper made it Zednik's 9th straight season with 10+ assists.
Chicago d-man Aaron Johnson snapped an 8 game assist-less and point-less streak helping out on the lone Blackhawks' goal as they fell to the visiting Minnesota Wild 4-1. Johnson has 8 points (3 goals, 5 assists) on 26 games. For the 4th time in his 5 seasons, and his first since 2006-07, Johnson has reached the 5+ assist mark. He is currently only 2 assists away from tying his single season high of 7 from the 2006-07 season while still with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
