The Islanders traded defenseman Brett Skinner today to the Atlanta Thrashers for winger Junior Lessard. Skinner, in his rookie season with the Isles, had played in 11 games compiling 0 points, a +2 rating and 4 penalty minutes. Skinner was originally chosen in the 3rd Round, 68th overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Vancouver Canucks but only cracked an NHL lineup this season due in large part to numerous injuries to the Isles' blueline.
In return the Isles received the originally undrafted Lessard who has played parts of 3 seasons with the Dallas Stars and Tampa Bay Lightning. In 27 career NHL games Lessard has 3 goals and 1 assist for 4 points with a -5 rating, 23 penalty minutes and 1 powerplay tally.
We welcome Skinner into a new community and look forward to seeing him make appearances on Former Islander Watch just not at the expense of the Isles. All the best to you Brett!
