Late-August Becomes Pre-Season

Realizing that one has been lax to one's blogging requirements is daunting knowledge. As school, work and life role on here in Orange County Former Islander Watch has suffered. Here is the end of summer update featuring news so old it cannot truly be called "new":

Defensive veteran and living fossil Mathieu "Coelecanth" Schneider signed a deal with the Vancouver Canucks on August 28. Schneids, who scored 32 points (9 goals, 23 assists) in 67 games last season between the Atlanta Thrashers and Montreal Canadiens will join his 9th team and 5th in the last 4 seasons. It is believed that Schneider signed a 1 year, $1.55 million deal. Best of luck Mathieu!

On September 2 goaltender Roberto Luongo signed a 12 year contract extension with the Canucks essentially ending all trade rumors involving the stud backstopper. Bobby Lu is all but guaranteed to be a 'Nuck for the rest of his playing career. The deal will net Luongo $7.5 million this year and about $80 million over the life of the contract at an average of $6.75 million per year but an exceedinly generous $10 million next year. Congratulations Roberto... wow!

That same day winger Taylor Pyatt said his final goodbyes to Vancouver and joined the Phoenix Coyotes (a.k.a. the Hamilton Blackberries) on a 1 year deal for an amount yet to be announced. The winger has 19 points (10 goals, 9 assists) last season with the 'Nucks in 69 games before sitting out the last part of the season and a portion of the playoffs due to the untimely passing of his fiance. We wish Taylor the best as he finds a home far from the colder confines of Long Island, Buffalo or Vancouver.

Center Mike Duff nee Comrie signed a 1 year deal with the Edmonton Oilers, a former squad, on September 10. Comrie struggled last season with a meager 27 points (10 goals, 17 assists) on 63 games between the Isles and Ottawa Senators. The deal is believed to $1.125 million... that should buy a lot of Hilary Duff cds. Congratulations Mike... Hope you find your touch again!

FI camp invitees include: winger Mitch Fritz with Phoenix, winger Mike York with the Florida Panthers, winger Mark Parrish with the Canucks, winger Kip Brennan with the Oilers, a shortlived relationship with center Shawn Bates and the Colorado Avalanche that has already ended... more as they are discovered.

More transactions when they pop back to memory... Thanks for reading.

Thursday April 9

It was a ridiculously busy final Thursday to the 2008-09 NHL season as 22 teams faced off in 11 tilts. Former Islanders continue to help their teams out even if playoff mirages of the recent past have now disapated. FIs kicked in their efforts in 6 of those contests. Here is a quick look:

Boston captain and defenseman Zdeno Chara scored the game tying powerplay goal early in the 3rd Period and added and powerplay assist to help lead the Bruins to a 5-4 OT win over the visiting Montreal Canadiens. Chara now has 19 goals and 31 assists for 50 points on 80 games giving the giant blueliner his 2nd straight 50+ point campaign. His 19 goals (11 powerplay) both set new single season highs while his 17 extra man helpers equaled another high from the 2006-07 season, his first with the Bs. Scoring a powerplay goal for the Habs was d-man Mathieu Schneider. He has points in 7 straight games (2 goals, 5 assists) and now has 9 goals and 23 assists for 32 points on 66 games. In only 22 games with Montreal Schneids has notched 17 points (5 goals, 12 assists). He is now only 1 extra man score away from 100 on his career. Assisting on that goal was fellow blueliner Roman Hamrlik. With 4 assists over the last 4 contests Hamr now has 5 goals and 27 assists for 32 points on 81 games.

Buffalo center Tim Connolly notched 2 assists as the Sabres crushed the host Carolina Hurricanes 5-1. TimCo has 45 points (17 goals, 28 assists) on 47 games reaching that mark for only the 3rd time on his career and first since the 2005-06 season. Connolly is now only 1 assist shy of 200 on his career. For the 13th time this season Connolly has recorded 2 or more points in a game.

Pittsburgh winger Bill Guerin scored an even strength goal against his most recent squad, the Isles, as the Penguins heartily trounced the visiting Blue & Orange 6-1. Billy G snapped a 3 game point-less streak and now has 21 goals and 27 assists for 48 points on 77 games. Guerin has played well for the Pens recording 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) in 17 games. Pittsburgh is now the 7th team that Guerin has scored 5 or more goals with in a season. Assisting on the first Pens' goal was winger Ruslan Fedotenko. With 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists) over the last 2 games Fedo now has 16 goals and 22 assists for 38 points on 64 games.

Detroit goaltender Chris Osgood stopped 22 of 25 shots faced including 2 in OT but let 2 of 4 go in during the SO as the Nashville Predators edged the host Red Wings 4-3. Ozzie is now 26-8-8 on the season snapping a mini-2 game winning streak. The 8 OT losses sets a new single season high for Osgood who has been subpar, at best, this season yet has an impressive record due to the excellence of both the Wings' offense and their impressive blueline.

Dallas Stars' winger Mark Parrish scored a goal as they eked by the host Colorado Avalanche 3-2 in a SO. The netter snapped a 4 game point-less streak and an 11 game goal-less streak for the spotty forward. Parrish now has 8 goals and 5 assists for 13 points on 44 games.

Vancouver goaltender Roberto Luongo was unbeatable stopping all 20 shots he faced as the Canucks edged the visiting Los Angeles Kings 1-0. The victory was the 2nd straight for Lu who is now 32-13-7 on the season. The goose egg was his 8th of the season, a new single season high for the highly prized backstopper surpassing his 7 blankings from 2003-04 season while with the Florida Panthers.

Sunday February 8

There were a measly 4 games on Sunday around the NHL. Former Islanders, however, did not see it fit to avoid participation and were factors in 3 of those tilts. Here is a summation of the competitions:

Atlanta defenseman Mathieu Schneider had a powerplay assist on the too-little-too-late goal as the Thrashers were edged by the visiting Philadelphia Flyers 3-2. Schneids now has 4 goals and 9 assists for 13 points on 41 games. The helper brings Schneider within 1 assist of career #500.

For the second straight night Oilers' FIs Denis Grebeshkov and Robert Nilsson tallied assists. For the second straight night the Oilers fell to their opponent. Edmonton lost in SO to the host Minnesota Wild 3-2. Winger Nilsson had the secondary assist on the late tying goal but was stopped on assist in the 2nd frame of the 4 round shootout. Nilsson now has 7 goals and 13 assists for 20 points on 43 games. Nilsson has an assist in each of the last 3 games and has managed a point per game over the last 7 with 1 goal and 6 assists. For the 2nd straight season and 3rd time on his career Nily has reached the 20+ point plateau. Defenseman Grebeshkov assisted on the opening powerplay tally only 6:26 in to play. Greb has 4 goals and 21 assists for 25 points on 50 games. The 25 points on a season is the first for the young d-man.

Dallas winger Mark Parrish scored the game winner with less than 5 minutes remaining in the 1st period as the Stars bumped the visiting Nashville Predators 4-1. Parrish suited up for the first time since January 21 after being sidelined by the flu. He snapped a 4 game goal-less streak and now has 7 goals and 4 assists for 11 points on 32 games. The winner was the 3rd of the season for Parrish and the 40th of his career.

Monday January 19

There were 7 games up for grabs Monday as Martin Luther King, Jr. Day brought kids out to daytime games around the United States. Former Islanders made it a point to help their teams kicking in their support in 4 of those outings. Let us take a look:

Boston defenseman Zdeno Chara notched a goal and added a powerplay assist but the St. Louis Blues stunned the Eastern Conference leaders pulling off a 5-4 SO victory over the hosts. The Blues scored 2 goals in the last 80 seconds including a tying tally with 1 second remaining in regulation to pull of the comeback. Chara has 10 goals and 18 assists for 28 points on 46 games. For the 5th straight season and 6th in the last 7 Chara has scored 10+ goals.

Dallas winger Mark Parrish assisted on the 1st of only 2 Stars' goals as they fell to the host Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2. The helper snapped a 19 game assist-less streak dating to November 28. Parrish now has 6 goals and 4 assists for 10 points on 30 games. Parrish now has 10+ points in each of his 10 seasons. The assist, which came on the powerplay, was his first extra man helper since February 19, 2008 while still with the Minnesota Wild.

Buffalo center Tim Connolly kept up his good play with another goal as the Sabres edged the host Florida Panthers 3-2 in the SO. With 3 goals over the last 2 games Connolly now has 5 goals and 5 assists for 10 points on 12 games. The goal was the 75th of TimCo's 450 games career. For the 2nd straight season and 7th time on his 8 season career Connolly has notched 10+ points. Receiving the primary assist on the tying Panthers' goal was winger Richard Zednik. Zed now has 6 goals and 10 assists for 16 points on 34 games. He has notched a point-per-game over the last 5 contests with 1 goal and 4 assists. The helper made it Zednik's 9th straight season with 10+ assists.

Chicago d-man Aaron Johnson snapped an 8 game assist-less and point-less streak helping out on the lone Blackhawks' goal as they fell to the visiting Minnesota Wild 4-1. Johnson has 8 points (3 goals, 5 assists) on 26 games. For the 4th time in his 5 seasons, and his first since 2006-07, Johnson has reached the 5+ assist mark. He is currently only 2 assists away from tying his single season high of 7 from the 2006-07 season while still with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Thursday January 15

There were 20 teams scrambling for points in 10 games around the NHL on Thursday night. Former Islanders tipped in their help in 6 of those contests. Here is a look:

It was a record night for Toronto winger Jason Blake who tallied a hat trick and added 2 assists for his first 5 point night. The Maple Leafs survived a collapse from 4-0 to eke out a 6-4 victory over the host Carolina Hurricanes. Blake had a powerplay helper on the opening goal, netted the Leafs 2nd and 4th goals, had another powerplay assist on the winning goal and capped teh scoring with the empty netter with 11 seconds remaining. All-in-all it was the most impressive outing of Blake's career and marked his first hat trick since February 27, 2007 while still with the Isles which also happened to be his last 4 point night, his previous best. The hat trick was the 6th of Blakey's career. He now has 13 goals and 16 assists for 29 points on 40 games and is only 2 goals behind his shockingly low output of 15 from last season.

Edmonton defenseman Denis Grebeshkov assist on his team's lone goal as the Oilers were smacked down by the host Minnesota Wild 5-1. Greb has 2 assists over the last 2 games and 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists) on the last 4. He has set a new single season high in assists with 16 and added to his 3 goals means he has a new single season high in points with 19, all in 40 games.

Colorado winger Ryan Smyth kept up his current point scoring streak recording the primary assist on the Avalanche's 2nd goal as they fell to the host St. Louis Blues 5-2. Smyth has 3 goals and 4 assists for 7 points over the last 5 games. Add that to the 2 goals and 5 assists he recorded in late December and Smyth is flying with 14 points (5 goals, 9 assists) in only his last 11 games. On the season Smyth has 15 goals and 18 assists for 33 points on 44 contests.

Mark Parrish was stuffed on his attempt in the 6th and final round of the SO as the Dallas Stars were edged by the visiting Buffalo Sabres 5-4. The Sabres scored 3 goals in the 3rd period to the Stars' one to overcome a 3-1 deficit after 40 minutes. The Sabres' Tim Connolly also was stopped on his attempt in the 3rd round. A successfully shot by TimCo would have won the game for the Sabres but alas the matchup extended 3 more frames before Jason Pominville pounced on Parrish' miss to notch the winner.

Roberto Luongo is back baby! And he lost. The Vancouver goaltender played in his first game since November 22, 2008 after straining his groin. He played only 5 minutes of that game before missing the next month and a half in recovery. Luongo did not get of the gate the way he expected stopping only 28 of 32 shots as the Canucks fell to the visiting Phoenix Coyotes 4-1. Luongo is now 11-6-2 on the season with a .925 save percentage and a 2.27 goals against average.

Calgary d-man Adrian Aucoin had an assist on the Flames' 1st goal as they edged the host San Jose Sharks 3-2. The regulation loss was the Sharks' first at home this season. Aucoin has 3 assists over the last 3 games and has racked up 6 goals and 11 assists for 17 points on 43 games. Despite grumblings from Flames' fans about ditching Aucoin, he is currently 2nd on the team in defensive points and actually has 2 more goals than leader Dion Phaneuf. He averages about 25 minutes a night, too! An he is 35!

Monday January 12

There were only 2 games on the schedule Monday night yet 1 game did grace us with a pair of Former Islander happenings. Let us take a look:

Detroit goaltender Chris Osgood stood on his and stopped 44 of 49 shots but it was the 1 shot he faced in OT that got him as the Dallas Stars eked out a 5-4 win over the visiting Red Wings. Ozzie stopped 21 of 23 faced in a 2nd period barrage and 15 of 16 in the 3rd but the Stars fought back from 2 two goal deficits and a late 4-3 deficit to even the score up before OT. Osgood even helped out on the offensive end receiving the secondary assist on Detroit's 2nd goal and he compiled a pair of penalties! The OT loss dropped him to 14-2-5 on the season and left him with an .885 save percentage and a 3.11 goals against average. Not known as a huge help on leading the rush, Osgood does has 18 assists on 686 career games. He is also one of only 9 goalies to score a goal accomplishing that feat on March 6, 1996. In fact, in terms of helpers, Osgood's best season was during 2001-02, his first as the Isles starter. Also getting involved was Dallas winger Mark Parrish who knotted the score at 3 later in the 2nd period. Parrish snapped a 4 game goal-less and point-less streak and now has 6 goals and 3 assists for 9 points on 27 games.

Tuesday December 23-Sunday January 4

Former Islander Watch took a break (a long break) for the holiday season. We are back with updates from the last 2 weeks but to keep the tedium to a minimum we will be recapping specific player accomplishments not game recap formats. Here we go:

Philadelphia Flyers' winger Arron Asham had an assists over 2 games. Asham notched a helper on the lone Flyers' goal on December 26 as they fell to the host Chicago Blackhawks 6-1. Asham has not played since December 27. He has 3 goals and 3 assists for 6 points on 36 games.

Calgary Flames' defenseman Adrian Aucoin had 2 goals and an assist over the last 5 games. The points were in 3 consecutive games from December 26-31. The goal on the 26th was the game winner in a 6-3 victory over the visiting Ottawa Senators. The winner was the 15th of Aucoin's career. He now has 6 goals and 8 assists for 14 points on 39 games.

Calgary Flames' winger Todd Bertuzzi had a productive stretch scoring 3 goals and 4 assists for 7 points over 5 games. Bert notched the game winner in the Flames' 3-2 win over the host Nashville Predators on January 3. The winner was Bertuzzi's 3rd of the year and 33rd of his career. Bert now has 11 goals and 19 assists for 30 points on 39 games. For the 2nd straight season and 10th time on his career Bertuzzi has reached the 30+ point plateau. He is currently tied for 3rd on the Flames in points.

Toronto Maple Leafs' winger Jason Blake did okay for himself notching 2 goals and an assist for 3 points on 5 tilts. Blake scored a goal and added an assist during the Leafs' 3-1 win over the visiting Ottawa Senators on January 3. Blakey has 9 goals and 14 assists for 23 points on 35 games.

Boston Bruins' captain and d-man Zdeno Chara managed only a goal and an assist for 2 points on 5 contests. Both points came in the Bs' 5-2 victory over the host Pittsburgh Penguins on December 30. Chara now has 7 goals and 15 assists for 22 points on 39 games.

Pittsburgh Penguins' winger Ruslan Fedotenko kept up his recent good play with 3 goals and 1 assist for 4 points on 5 games. Fedo scored the lone goal in the Pens' 1-0 edging of the host New Jersey Devils on December 26. The game winner was Fedotenko's 3rd of the season and 28th of his career. Tank now has 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points on 37 games. For the 8th straight season Fedotenko has reached the 10+ goal plateau. As well, it was the 6th consecutive season and 7th overall time that Fedo has reached 10+ assists. In all 8 of his seasons Fedotenko has managed 20+ points.

Edmonton Oilers' d-man Denis Grebeshkov notched points in only 1 of 5 games but it was a huge night. Greb scored a goal and added 3 assists for 4 points on December 31 as the Oil lost to the host Calgary Flames 6-4. Greb got involved in each of the team's goals for a career best single game effort. Grebeshkov now has 2 goals and 14 assists for 16 points on 35 games. The goal was the 5th of his young career. Grebeshkov is currently tied for 1st on the team in +/- rating with a +8.

Montreal Canadiens' d-man Roman Hamrlik had 1 assist on 5 games. Hammer notched a shorthanded helper during the Habs' 5-2 victory over the host Florida Panthers on December 29. The shortie helper was Hamrlik's 2nd of the season and first since October 20. Hamrlik now has 2 goals and 9 assists for 11 points on 27 games. Not to kill a dead horse but the shorthanded assist was an impressive #15 for Hammer's career.

Phoenix Coyotes' center Olli Jokinen had 2 goals and an assist for 3 points on 5 games. O-Jok even notched a goal against his old squad, the Isles, as the 'Yotes downed them 5-4 at home on January 2. Jokinen now has 13 goals and 15 assists for 28 points on 34 games. Since the lockout Jokinen has played well against the Isles scoring 14 points (5 goals, 9 assists) on 13 games including a 6 point (2 goal, 4 assist) effort against the Isles on March 17, 2007.

Washington Capitals' center Viktor Kozlov notched 1 goal and 3 assists for 4 points on 5 games. Kozzer had 2 assists on December 30 as the Caps' downed the host Buffalo Sabres 4-2. Kozlov has 9 goals and 17 assists for 26 points on 35 games. For the 12th consecutive season Kozzer has reached the 25+ point mark.

Florida Panthers' d-man Bryan McCabe had a productive run scoring 2 goals and adding 3 assists for 5 points on 6 games. McCabe had a goal and an assist for 2 points on January 3 as the visiting Panthers thumped the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-1. He now has 7 goals and 11 assists for 18 points on 29 games. McCabe is currently 5th on the Panthers in points scored and only 2 points behind Jay Bouwmeester for defensive scoring leader. Jay-Bo has played in 10 more games than McCabe. Florida has done well when McCabe manages a point going 8-5-2 in those 15 games.

Edmonton Oilers' winger Robert Nilsson had a goal and an assist over the last 5 competitions. Nilsson notched a powerplay tally on December 31 as the Oil fell to the host Calgary Flames 6-4. He now has 5 goals and 7 assists for 12 points on 32 games. Half of his season points (6, 3 goals, 3 assists) have come with the man advantage.

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Chris Osgood returned for a near 3 week hiatus due to injury (last game December 15) and continued his winning ways on January 3. Ozzie stopped 33 of 35 shots as the Wings edged the host Minnesota Wild 3-2. Osgood improved to 13-2-4 on the season with a 3.12 goals against average and an .880 save percentage. Ozzie has won 4 of his last 5 starts.

Dallas Stars' winger Mark Parrish scored 1 goal in 4 games. Parrish notched the game winning tally on New Year's Eve as the Stars knocked off the visiting New Jersey Devils 4-2. Parrish and 5 goals and 3 assists for 8 points on 24 games this season. The winner was Parrish' 2nd of the season and the 39th of his career.

Columbus Blue Jackets' center Michael Peca scored a goal and added an assist for 2 points on 5 games. Peca notched the insurance goal as the Jacks blanked the host Anaheim Ducks 2-0 on December 31. Peca now has 3 goals and 6 assists for 9 points on 34 games.

Vancouver Canucks' winger Taylor Pyatt broke his foot on December 26 as they fell to the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 at home. Pyatt is out at least 4 weeks.

Pittsburgh Penguins' winger Miroslav Satan is struggling as of late and only had 1 assist over 5 games (really his last 6 games). Satan had a helper on January first as the Pens fell to the host Boston Bruins 4-2. Miro has 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points on 39 games.

Colorado Avalanche winger Ryan Smyth netted a goal and added 2 assists for 3 points on 5 games. Smyth scored a goal and an assist on December 27 as the Avs downed the visiting Detroit Red Wings 4-3. He now has 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points on 39 games. Smyth is currently 2nd on the team in goals and 3rd overall in points.

New York Rangers' backup goalie Stephen Valiquette lost in his only appearance of the last 3 weeks. Vali started the Blueshirts' January 3, a close 2-1 loss to the host Washington Capitals. Valiquette stopped 29 of 31 shots in 59 minutes of ice time. The loss dropped him to 4-3-0 on the season with a 2.36 goals against average, a .922 save percentage and 1 shutout.

Friday November 28

With leftover turkey sandwiches to fuel them NHL players faced off in 11 games on Friday. Former Islanders made waves in 5 of those tilts tapping in their support. Here is a look at the FI noteworthies:

Boston captain Zdeno Chara notched an assist on his team's 4th goal as the host Bruins thumped the visiting Islanders 7-2. Chara now has 4 goals and 6 assists for 10 points on 23 games. With the helper he snapped a 3 game point-less stretch. On his career Chara has done well against his original squad recording 20 points (7 goals, 13 assists) on 29 games (5 playoff) against the Isles.

Minnesota defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron has 2 even strength assists, including 1 on the game winner, as the Wild doubled up on the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning for a 4-2 victory. Bergeron has had 5 assists over the last 3 games and now has 2 goals and 10 assists for 12 points on 21 games. MAB currently leads all Wild defenseman in helpers and points. The multi-point effort was the 3rd of the season for Bergeron with all 3 of those games in his last 8 overall.

Colorado winger Ryan Smyth notched his 2nd goal in as many games but it was not enough as the Avalanche were edged by the host Phoenix Coyotes 2-1. Smyth now has 7 goals and 5 assists for 12 points on 22 games but has largely been a non-factor for the Avs this season in terms of getting the job done but then again the team has struggled too.

To be honest it is fairly easy to be Chris Osgood when the team in front of you is just so good. What is infuriating for Ozzie, therefore, is how bad his play has been despite what the record reflects. Osgood surrendered 3 goals on only 16 shots but his offense buoyed him as the Red Wings waltzed away with a 5-3 home win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Ozzie improved to 9-1-4 on the season (unbeaten in 13, 9-0-4) but still sports a save percentage below .880 and a goals against average over 3.20. As Ozzie inches closer to career win #400 it is a case of success in spite of obvious deficits, one that has created a little battle for start time with backup Ty Conklin. Getting involved for the Jacks were a pair of FIs. Center Michael Peca was credited with the primary assist on Columbus' 2nd goal. Peca snapped a 4 game point-less stretch and now has 1 goal and 5 assists for 6 points on 17 games. Receiving the secondary assist on that same goal was winger Raffi Torres. Torres has 3 points, all assists, on 12 games this season. He snapped an insufferably long 8 game point-less run.

While winger Mark Parrish is by no means a healing tonic for what is clearly a disparate Dallas squad lack of morals, cohesiveness and, surprisingly, talent he has been a shot in the arm to the anemic offense. Parrish notched an assist on the Stars' 2nd goal as the host Texans were thumped by the mighty San Jose Sharks 6-2. Parrish has 4 goals and 3 assists for 7 points on 10 games.

Monday November 24

There were 2 games on Sunday with no Former Islander noteworthies. However, Monday was a plentiful night with 7 games, 5 with FI happenings. Here is a peek at their contributions:

Phoenix center Olli Jokinen assisted on the team's lone goal as the Coyotes fell to the host New York Rangers 4-1. The goal staked the 'Yotes to a short lived 1-0 lead only 4:08 in to play but all was for naught as the Rags stormed back. Jokinen snapped a 2 game mini-point-less drought and now has 7 goals and 11 assists for 18 points on 20 games.

Dallas winger Mark Parrish had an assist on his team's 2nd goal as the Stars fell to the host Philadelphia Flyers 4-3. Parrish has been impressive so far with the Stars notching 6 points (4 goals, 2 assists) on 8 games.

Montreal defenseman Roman Hamrlik snapped an 8 game point-less streak with an assist on the Canadiens' first goal as the Habs fell to the visiting Islanders in odd form 4-3 in SO. A fluke own-goal by Canadiens' d-man Ryan O'Byrne tied the game up at 3 goals a piece late giving the Isles an opening to win it in the extra frames. Hamrlik now has 2 goals and 4 assists for 6 points on 19 games.

Minnesota d-man Marc-Andre Bergeron snapped a 4 game point-less stretch notching 2 assists, 1 powerplay, as the Wild survived a near 4 goal comeback by the visiting Washington Capitals to hold on for a 4-3 victory. Bergeron assisted on the opening goal at the 13:54 of the first period receiving the lone helper on Cal Clutterbuck's (great name, right?) 1st career goal. MAB then added a powerplay helper only 3:07 in to the 3rd period to stake the Wild to a 3-0 lead. Bergeron now has 9 points (2 goals, 7 assists) on 19 games. Seven of those points (2 goals, 5 assists) have come on the man advantage.

Vancouver winger Taylor Pyatt notched a goal 2:27 in to the 2nd period and was rewarded with the 1st star of the game honor as the Canucks pulled off a 3-2 come-from-behind OT victory over the visiting Detroit Red Wings. Pyatt now has 3 goals and 5 assists for 8 points on 22 games. He snapped a 5 game goal-less run with the tally. In net for the Wings was goaltender Chris Osgood who 21 of 24 shots including 7 of a resounding 8 in the OT frame. Osgood's record fell to 8-1-4 on the season while his goals against average dropped to 3.26 and his save percentage raised slightly to .881. Ozzie has not lost in regulation in his last 12 starts managing an 8-0-4 record over that span.

Check here soon for more updates, recaps and news at FIW.
