Not Quite a Signing: Mark Parrish

In a weird twist of fate the Islanders have extended UFA winger Mark Parrish a 25-game tryout contract with the team's AHL affiliate the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Check out the story here at Newsday's Isles blog.

Parrish spent the majority of his career with the Islanders between 2000 and 2006 before being traded late in the 2005-06 campaign to the Los Angeles Kings. After reaching free agency, Parrish signed with what he believed to be greener pastures inking a 5 year deal with the Minnesota Wild and returning to his home state. Only 2 years in to the 5 year contract the Wild bought out the last 3 years of his deal this summer making him a UFA. Parrish received little tangible interest since he was cut so late (early August) when most teams had pretty much firmed up their lineups. We wish Mark lots of luck and would not be disappointed to see him in the Orange & Blue again since the youth experiment has been mixed at best so far.

Hey - I couldn't find any contact email for you on the site. Here's some Jason Blake news.

TORONTO — Unproductive winger Jason Blake is the next target of reform for Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Ron Wilson.

Blake, who is only two years removed from his career-best 40-goal season, has struggled since his move to Toronto 15 months ago.

He scored 15 goals in 82 games a season ago, and in six games this fall Blake has one meaningless power-play goal in a 6-1 loss to the Montreal Canadians two weeks ago. He raised eyebrows when he emphatically pumped his fist after depositing his second-period goal, which made the score 5-1.

Wilson has talked with Blake about his inefficient play, and there is a possibility that the veteran forward will sit out Toronto's game in Boston against the Bruins tonight, because left winger Ryan Hollweg is eligible to return from his three-game suspension for his major boarding penalty against the St. Louis Blues on Oct. 13.

When asked if Blake thought he may be a healthy scratch in Boston, he shrugged, "I don't know. There is nothing I can do about it."
