While the NHL began regular season festivities overseas, the preseason action was stilling happening back stateside. There were 6 more exhibition games on Saturday. Former Islanders made major impacts in 4 of those tilts. Let us take a peak at their workload from Saturday night:
Zdeno Chara netted his first goal of the preseason, a powerplay tally, as the Bruins fell to the visiting Islanders 3-1 in Boston. The lone Bs goal scorer, Chara staked his team to a 1-0 lead only 3:14 in to the 2nd period.
Chris Osgood continued to show how good it is being the goaltender for the Red Wings as he backstopped Detroit to a 4-3 win over the host Toronto Maple Leafs. Ozzie stopped 23 of 26 shots he faced continuing an excellent preseason. Also showing off was Toronto FI Jason Blake who notched 2 goals, 1 powerplay, to lead the Leafs' offensive attack. Blake is looking to recapture the goal-scoring form that landed him a big contract with the Blue and White after the 2006-07 season.
Tough guy right wing Arron Asham got his name on the scoresheet assisting on the too-little-too-late goal as the Philadelphia Flyers wered edged by the host New Jersey Devils 4-3. Asham should be a feature on what could pan out to be the toughest checking line in the NHL this season.
And finally, newest Atlanta defenseman Mathieu Schneider received a powerplay assist in his first game with his new team. The Thrashers fell to the visiting St. Louis Blues 4-1. We are really hoping for the best for Schneider as it could be a very long season in Atlanta.
