On the night before the busiest day in recognizable NHL history there were a dozen teams facing off in 6 games. Former Islanders, when healthy, are making their contributions. FIs made noise in 2 of those Friday night competitions. Here is a quick look:
Detroit goaltender Chris Osgood stopped 30 of 33 shots faced to backstop the Red Wings to a 5-3 win over the visiting Atlanta Thrashers. Osgood has not lost in regulation in his last 4 starts and is now 3-1-1 on the season. He is sporting a 3.20 goals against average and a .890 save percentage. Ozzie has surrendered 16 goals on the early season in 5 games. Last season it took until game 11 before Osgood surrendered that same amount of goals.
Florida winger Richard Zednik netted his first goal of the season and his first since getting cut on the neck last season by the skate of former teammate Olli Jokinen. Zed snapped an 8 game goal-less drought dating back to last season having last scored a goal on February 9. Zednik also snapped a 4 game point-less streak as the host Panthers eked past the San Jose Sharks for a 4-3 victory. Zed now has 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists) on 7 games this season.
