Roman Hamrlik

Another Former Islander favorite is on the move today, the second day of free agency. Defenseman Roman Hamrlik has bailed on the Calgary ship after 2 seasons to join the Montreal Canadiens on a 4 year deal. Monetary terms have yet to be disclosed. A 15 year veteran, Hamrlik's career has stayed steady and last year could be seen as a late-career surge. He tallied 38 points (7 goals, 31 assists) in 75 games, including 17 powerplay assists. Hamrlik, formerly with Tampa Bay, Edmonton and the Isles should provide a solid #2 or #3 d-man and has fans speculating as to the fate of Hab favorite Sheldon Souray. On his career Hamrlik has played in 999 contests while notching 131 goals and 374 assists for 505 points. We wish Roman the best in his future.
