There were a handful of games (5) up for grabs Wednesday night. Former Islanders provided support in a pair (2) of those competitions. Here are their efforts:
Buffalo center Tim Connolly scored the game winning goal only 2:23 in to play as the Sabres blanked the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs 5-0. Connolly also had the primary powerplay assist on the first of 3 Thomas Vanek goals to cap the multi-point effort. TimCo has scored the game winner in 2 of the last 3 Sabres' games and now has 10 goals and 8 assists for 18 points on 18 games. The game winner was the 14th of Connolly's career. For the 6th time on his career, but the first since the 2005-06 season, Connolly has reached 10+ goals.
Detroit goaltender Chris Osgood stopped 23 of 27 shots as the Red Wings pulled off a last minute 5-4 win over the visiting Phoenix Coyotes. Mr. Success-Inspite-of-Futility recorded the win after blowing a 2 goal cushion late through the middle 10 minutes of the 3rd Period. The win improved Ozzie to 17-4-6 on the season with an .880 save percentage and a 3.29 goals against average. Among all goalies with 15 or more wins Osgood sits at the bottom in save percentage and second to last in gaa.
