Happy Groundhog's Day! We can now brace for 6 more weeks of winter which in hockey terms is an excellent thing. There were a meager 3 games up for grabs Monday night with Former Islanders lending support in a pair of those contests. Here is a peek:
Detroit goaltender Chris Osgood received the 3rd star honor stopping 30 of 33 shots through 65 minutes and 2 of 3 in the SO as the Red Wings edged the visiting St. Louis Blues 4-3. The victory snapped a 3 game winless streak (0-2-1) for Ozzie who is now 16-4-6 on the season. He is sporting an .882 save percentage and a 3.27 goals against average.
Colorado winger Ryan Smyth was the 2nd star of the game after recording 2 assists including one on the man advantage as the Avalanche edged the visiting Calgary Flames 4-3. Smyth now has 16 goals and 24 assists for 40 points on 51 games. Over the last 6 games he has 7 points on 1 goal and 6 assists. For the 9th time on his career Smyth has reached 40+ points. Calgary defenseman Adrian Aucoin netted the Flames' 2nd goal. Aucoin is on a hot streak with points in 7 straight games. During this span Aucoin has 2 goals and 6 assists for 8 points. He has 8 goals and 16 assists for 24 points on 49 games. Assisting on Calgary's 1st goal was winger Todd Bertuzzi. Bert now has 12 goals and 21 assists for 33 points on 44 games.
