Only 4 games were on tap on Sunday night as we approach the end of the calendar year. Let us take a look at the Former Islander assistance:
* Martin Straka assisted on the opening goal of the game as the New York Rangers beat the visiting Montreal Canadiens 4-3 in OT. Straka is fully revived from an injury that hampered the first part of his season. He has 17 points (7 goals, 10 assists) on 24 games this season. Straka has 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists) on his last 9 games including 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists) over the last 2 nights.
* Most nights Roberto Luongo is a wall. He showed his talent for stopping pucks again on Sunday as he stopped 21 of 22 as the Vancouver Canucks dropped the visiting Anaheim Ducks 2-1. Luongo improved to 18-11-3 on the season in 32 starts. Helping the Ducks was Todd Bertuzzi who assisted on the lone Anaheim goal. Bert now has 14 points (6 goals, 8 assists) on 27 games. He has a 4 game point scoring streak in which he has accounted for 1 goal and 3 assists.
