Five games were up for contention on Monday as 10 teams were desperate to grab points in the early season scramble. Former Islanders were there, as normal, adding help as they could. With 1 win and an assist let us take a look at the FI action:
* Kevin Weekes, in a rare start for New Jersey, backstopped the Devils to a 3-2 win over the host Pittsburgh Penguins. Weekes stopped 23 of 25 shots to improve to 2-0-1 on 3 starts this season. He also improved his stats dropping his goals against average to 2.09 and upping his save percentage to .930. Weekes, finally showing signs of full recovery from his hip injury, has been an asset to the Devils in his brief opportunities to shine.
* Olli Jokinen assisted on the opening goal of the game as the Florida Panthers dropped a 4-3 decision to the visiting Carolina Hurricanes. O-Jok notched the 20 point mark only 17 games into the season. He has 9 goals and 11 assists.
Check back soon for all the FI efforts.
