The Phoenix Coyotes heeded the call of the Ottawa Senators who were looking to dump disgruntled forward prospect Alexander Nikulin. Nikulin demanded a trade by Monday or said he would go back to his home country of Russia. Phoenix, already loaded with youthful talent, may or may not have room for him to immediately join their lineup but are willing to take a chance that they can temper his attitude. In so doing the 'Yotes parted with young defenseman and FI Drew Fata. Fata never even suited up in a game for Phoenix instead playing in 7 games for the team's AHL affiliate the San Antonio Rampage. Fata recorded 0 points and 6 penalty minutes during that stretch.
Originally drafted in the 3rd Round, 86th overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins the d-man bounced around the AHL and ECHL before signing with the Isles for the 2006-07 campaign. Over the next 2 seasons Fata played in 8 games with the Orange and Blue recording a goal and an assist for 2 points. Fata has a career rating of -3 along with 9 penalty minutes.
We wish Drew the best with his new team and we hope he can crack the Sens lineup soon!
